Where can I get Eights?
Eights is on the App Store now, for iPhone and iPad, and it's free to start. There is no Android or web version.
How is Eights different from social media?
Eights is built for the people you choose, not for an audience. Every memory goes to people you pick by name, and that rule is enforced by our database, not just hidden in the app. So there is no public profile, no followers, no likes or view counts, and no way to post to everyone.
Why eight seconds?
Eight seconds is long enough to hold a moment and too short to perform one, so recording stays quick and honest. You can record for up to three minutes and keep the best eight seconds. Photos work the same way: shoot or choose up to 24, then keep your favourite eight.
Can anyone see a memory I haven't shared?
No. A memory is visible only to you and the people you shared it with. There is no public feed and no setting that makes a memory public.
Is Eights free?
Yes. Sharing, groups, capsules, comments and offline saves are all free and unlimited. The free plan includes 15 new memories a month. Eights+ removes that limit for $1.99 USD a month or $19.99 USD a year, with your first month free. Eights+ Family covers up to six people in your Apple Family Sharing group for $34.99 USD a year.
What are groups and capsules?
A group is a set of people you share with often, like your family. A capsule is a shared collection, like a trip or a summer, that everyone in it can add their own memories to. Only a memory's creator can add it, so a moment never travels further than they chose.
How does search work if my memories are private?
Your phone transcribes what was said and labels what's in each memory before it's posted, so you can search for it later. Only that text is stored, and only people who can already see the memory can search it. Your videos and photos are never sent anywhere to be analysed.
Is Eights end-to-end encrypted?
No, and we'd rather say so plainly. Your content is encrypted in transit and at rest, and who can see a memory is enforced by our database. But we hold the keys to our storage, so we can technically access stored content, for example to review an abuse report or answer a lawful request. The Privacy Policy explains this in full.
Does Eights use my content to train AI or for ads?
No. Eights has no ads, does not sell personal information, and never uses your videos or photos to train AI. The only automated reading of a memory happens on your own device, to make it searchable for you.
What happens when I delete something?
Deleting a memory deletes its videos or photos from storage, and everyone loses access. You can delete your whole account from inside the app at any time. One honest caveat: a copy someone saved for offline viewing stays on their device until it next connects, then it's removed automatically.
What do I need to use Eights?
An iPhone running iOS 26 or later, or an iPad running iPadOS 26 or later, and an Apple Account for Sign in with Apple (Hide My Email works too). You must be at least 13.
